Job Description
Our client is a leading engineering and automation consulting firm with business units services oil & gas, energy infrastructure, biopharma and midstream pipeline sectors. This position will support the Oil & Gas services team, from their Concord CA operation. In this role an individual will be leading I&C engineering projects for oil refining and petrochemical facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, design, and implementation of control systems and strategies to optimize industrial processes for performance and reliability. Leverage industry best practices to create efficient control solutions.
- Manage discovery and investigation efforts in the field to define the project scope and requirements, ensuring a clear understanding of the project objectives.
- Contribute to creating and reviewing logic diagrams, cause-and-effect matrices, and functional narratives that form the backbone of the control system's design.
- Collaborate in developing and reviewing control panel design packages, field wiring diagrams, conduit and cable schedules, and all other relevant electrical and instrumentation deliverables.
- Participate in field verification activities and user requirements gathering walk-downs to understand system needs comprehensively.
- Design and develop DCS or PLC logic and graphics applications that meet customer and company specifications and applicable industry standards.
- Work closely with process engineers, project managers, and operations teams to develop and implement engineering solutions that align with project objectives.
- Assist the project manager with project control activities such as schedule management, reporting, and client meetings, ensuring smooth project execution and communication.
- Conduct factory acceptance testing to verify system functionality before deployment.
- Oversee field start-up activities, including troubleshooting support, ensuring successful system commissioning and operational readiness.
Physical Requirements:
- Travel by car to local refineries and plants
- Standing/walking around operation units while wearing PPE
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering or a related field. An advanced degree or certification in Control Systems or Process Automation is a plus.
- Five years of experience as a Control System Engineer, focusing on Honeywell DCS and/or Allen Bradley PLC. Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting control systems in an industrial setting.
- Experience integrating control systems with various hardware components, such as sensors, actuators, and PLCs. Knowledge of communication protocols like Modbus, OPC, or Ethernet/IP.
- Proficiency in working with Honeywell DCS platforms, such as Experion PKS or TDC 3000, is a plus. In-depth knowledge of configuring controllers, programming logic, and setting up regulatory control loops.
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in control systems, such as ladder logic, Function Block Diagrams (FBD), and Structured Text (ST), is a plus.
- Familiarity with other platforms is a plus : Triconex/Honeywell Safety Manager
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities to diagnose and resolve complex control system issues. Ability to analyze data, identify patterns, and optimize control strategies for improved performance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and end-users. Strong documentation skills to create clear and concise technical reports and guidelines.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple tasks and priorities. Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and explore new technologies and methodologies.
